Happy Holidays and Halleluiah 2009 is Ending
December 22, 2009It is so easy to get bogged down in all the things that went wrong this year, just to name one, the financial catastrophes we may have witnessed at home and/or with others. But this week is our last chance to see the Brightside of this year before the next one sets in. And frankly, it is probably the one time this year that we have the greatest chance of succeeding in that, being a time of giving and receiving.
So, here I go, I’ll give it my best shot.
The few hundred lives WalkerWonder brightened, by bringing smiles to faces, helping to celebrate a few 100 year birthdays, helping to create connection and conversation when it otherwise wouldn’t have been there and keeping a few more people organized as they moved about (walker bag).
The generosity of others who had more and gave more, unconditionally.
The compassionate responses of employers who sent the rejection letters to so many people they knew were suffering, but they couldn’t help.
The friends and colleagues who put themselves out to make connections in the workplace for people who were desperately looking for work
The openness of family to understand one another just a little bit more than usual in these tough times
The sweet, innocent children who got a dose of reality about the difference between wants and needs, and still love us anyway
The creative energy that boiled up after hitting rock bottom, like my new consulting business Your Social Media Plan.com and the new walker bag product that people actually are searching to find.
The freedom we found after standing up for what we believe and doing what we thought was right even when others thought we were wrong.
The money, whether big or small, that showed up just in the nick of time.
The non-shocked, compassionate look of the cashiers gave us who ran our credit cards to find they were denied.
The food in the cupboard you forgot was there, and the creative ways you fed your family from such unlikely paired ingredients
The millions of thoughts and prayers that we sent each other holding one another up every day that we never actually realized were helping.
The poor healthcare coverage that at least paid half the expenses
The teachers who taught our kids
The cleansing that naturally took place, so we good see again what is really important. And the growth we strived for in ourselves when our ugliness reared its nasty head, which it tends to do under times of such stress.
The parts of our bodies that work really well
The business partners that stayed focused and positive when we couldn’t.
The strangers who when we looked into their faces, they showed us a bit of the Brightside.
Overall, this year changed us, at least it did me. And it wasn’t all self imposed, no it was the times! On the Brightside, thank God it wasn’t worse. Please add your own.
